The battle for ETF investors just went from hot to hotter. In October, TD Ameritrade became the latest brokerage firm to offer commission free online ETF trades.

The offer will apply to 100 preselected ETFs for TD's customers that hold the respective funds longer than 30 calendar days; otherwise the standard commission rate of $9.99 will apply.
The Omaha -based firm joins other companies like Charles Schwab, Fidelity and Vanguard that also offer their own versions of commission free ETF trading.

Charles Schwab allows free online ETF trading to its brokerage clients for Schwab ETFs, Fidelity offers zero-cost online trades for 25 iShares funds and Vanguard brokerage makes a similar commission free offer for its Vanguard branded ETFs.
