Robert Marino to Lead Horizon Blue

William Marino, the chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, is set to retire from both posts March 1, 2011.

Marino, 67, has been CEO of Horizon Blue, Newark, N.J., since 1994 and chairman since Jan. 1.

Marino is on the board of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Chicago, and he is a past co-chair of America's Health Insurance Plans, Washington.

William Marino's successor, Robert Marino, shares a surname with William Marino but has no known relationship with his predecessor, according to Horizon Blue.

Robert Marino is now chief operating officer of Horizon Blue. He previously was senior vice president of the company's market business units division, and he has 35 years of health insurance industry experience.

The Horizon Blue board has elected Emmanuel Kampouris to succeed William Marino as chairman.

Horizon Blue has about 3.6 million members, up from 1.7 million when William Marino became CEO.
