Effective Advisor QualitiesI want someone to look me in the eyes and give me honest advice rather than try to sell me something. I want someone to give me options rather than tell me what to do. It's my money. I want to feel like I'm the one making the decisions.

I don't listen to financial advisors. My wife and I make our decisions on our own. But if we were to consult with an advisor, they would have to be trustworthy. That would be the main quality I would look for. I would have to know them personally and know that they're not driven by greed.

The main quality I look for in an advisor is that they are not on commission. You can't trust someone who's on commission because they will sell you something just to get the commission. So, I will only talk to someone who gets paid some other way and it's worked out pretty well for me, even though we're in an economic recession.

I picked my financial advisor because she is straightforward and listens to me. She is very knowledgeable about financial matters and the various investments we should make to preserve our assets. She doesn't push things that we aren't comfortable with. Plus, she's a really nice person!
