Training tips to use in your company

Use these 10 tips to kick-start a new outlook and motivation for yourself and your staff.

1. Create and maintain interest. Encourage questions and discussion. Use variety and involve learners in the delivery.

2. Focus training content on practical applications.

3. Give recognition, encouragement and approval. Showing your appreciation and acknowledgment increases motivation.

4. Foster wholesome competition. Enable learners to measure their own performance. Good-natured competition among team members can drive performance to a higher level.

5. Get excited. Attitudes are contagious.

6. Establish long-range objectives. Illustrate how the training pays off in the long run.

7. Appreciate the value of internal motives. Individuals have personal and professional goals. Recognize and encourage learners' personal motives.

8. Intensify interpersonal relationships. The learning environment can be an excellent way to get better acquainted with individual team members.

10. Make learning an active experience. Studies have shown that over three days adults remember:

  • 10 percent of what they read
  • 20 percent of what they hear
  • 30 percent of what they see
  • 50 percent of what they see and hear
  • 70 percent of what they say, and
  • 90 percent of what they say and do.
