The U.S. Department of Labor is airing live video of the hearing on lifetime income options for retirement plans.

The lifetime income Webcast is in progress now and is set to continue at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The Webcast includes close captioning.

Right now, participants are talking about benefits statements and retirement income projections.

The Employee Benefits Security Administration, an arm of the Labor Department, is sponsoring the hearing together with the U.S. Treasury Department. Supporters say offering participants in 401(k) plans and other defined contribution plans is a sensible way to protect their financial security; some critics have asked whether a plan asset annuitization program might somehow give the government a vehicle for taking a portion of participants' retirement savings.
