The Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf has meant trouble not just for BP, but for a host of others who are involved in cleanup and remediation efforts, and for those who take jobs working for a company supervising some of those operations.
Traditional environmental lines carriers are handling the first tier of coverage, but second-tier companies are finding it harder to gain insurance – small companies that have the necessary manpower and equipment to work on the problem but perhaps lack the training of more mature firms, as well as staffing companies that find people to provide the muscle and means of cleanup.
