Financial advisors may not have much of a reputation for being tech geeks, but that hasn't stopped them from incorporating the newest digital devices into their practices.

Indeed, companies such as Fiserv, Pershing, Thomson Reuters, and Morningstar are all joining the ranks of firms that promise advisors a world of information at their fingertips to manage client accounts.

The latest in popular gadgetry to enter the advisory world? Apple's iPad.

"We have a lot of clients using iPads," said sales associate and self-described tech geek Gary Bondaug of Fiserv-AdviceAmerica during an AdvisorVision and ClientVision product demo on Wednesday, August 25. "Because AdvisorVision is a Web application, it is fully available to advisors on mobile devices such as iPads and any other Web-enabled devices."

As financial advisors increase their use of digital tools, they're enjoying the convenience that cloud-computing offers, said Bondaug, who works in Silicon Valley and has ample opportunity to keep up with the growing digital wizardry incorporated into customer relationship management (CRM) products.

The single sign-on AdvisorVision product is incorporated into the Microsoft Outlook interface, which makes it simple for advisors to use with iPads in remote locations and at client meetings. The interface includes a toolbar with user-friendly visual icons leading to data on personal information, goals, assets, liabilities, cash flow, current asset mix, opportunities, tasks, and LaserApp forms for individual clients.

"We're framing our entire software application into Microsoft Outlook," Bondaug said. "You can send emails, access funds, set goals, allocate assets, and share screens with your clients. AdvisorVision puts all this information at your fingertips without having to log into different systems."
