Members of the House have voted 335-81 for H.R. 3040, the Senior Financial Empowerment Act of 2010.
The bill would provide $40 million in funding from 2010 to 2014 to set up and run a database that could give consumers publicly available information about entities and individuals that have been involved with enforcement actions relating to telemarket, mail and Internet fraud targeting seniors.
The lead sponsor is Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Wis.
House leaders originally put the bill on a track designed for uncontroversial bills that can be passed with a voice vote.
