Ameriprise Awards Grants

Ameriprise Financial Inc. (NYSE:AMP) has given about $1.1 million to nonprofit groups.

Ameriprise, Minneapolis, has made 72 grants through 3 funding vehicles. The company is backing groups that meet basic needs, promote community vitality, and need volunteers.

One recent project involved running drives that collected about $50,000 in cash and 2,000 pounds of food for local food banks.

Ameriprise also is supporting Miriam's Kitchen, Washington, a group that provides meals and services for about 5,000 homeless men and women each year, and Funding Hearts & Hammers-Twin Cities, an organization that weatherproofs the homes of older homeowners and homeowners with disabilities and does the repairs necessary to make sure the homes are safe.

Ameriprise now is processing applications for a second cycle of 2010 funding. The application deadline for a third cycle of 2010 grants is Sept. 1.
