Are You Compatible?

Microsoft has developed a free tool that helps evaluate whether there are any compatibility issues with your existing computer and Windows 7. The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor is a free download from Microsoft's Windows site. It is a fairly straightforward process and it should only take a couple of minutes to download and run the program. The tool checks for compatibility with items such as system requirements, installed programs, and devices. After running the tool, it provides a checklist of each area evaluated and the necessary next steps to address any issues identified, including links to additional information from both Microsoft and other companies. Keep in mind that it will not necessarily recognize every program installed on your computer. In my case, it did not recognize a number of programs specific to our industry. Finally, Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor will also recommend the type of installation that you should follow for Windows 7. This is especially important if you are upgrading from Windows XP.
