Good Works: UnitedHealth, Humana, CNO

UnitedHealth Group Inc. is helping a California health clinic organization by investing in the organization's bonds.

UnitedHealth, Minnetonka, Minn. (NYSE:UNH), invested $3.4 million in bonds issued by Salud Para La Gente, Watsonville, Calif., through the company's California Health Care Investment Program.

Salud Para La Gente operates in clinics in California public schools.

UnitedHealth provided $300,000 to help Salud Para La Gente cover the cost of issuing the bonds. Salud Para La Gente will use the proceeds to expand its facilities and buy equipment.

In other insurance philanthropy news, Humana Inc., Louisville, Ky. (NYSE:HUM), is offering a $100,000 grant to Cincinnati charities through the Humana Communities Benefit program.

Humana is interested in hearing from organizations involved in childhood health and education, family wellness and activity programs, and health literacy programs. Applications are due July 9.

CNO Financial Group Inc., Carmel, Ind. (NYSE:CNO), will team up with Habitat for Humanity for Greater Indianapolis June 4 to assemble the panels for two Habitat homes in CNO's parking lot.

About 300 CNO employees will work 90-minute panel assembly shifts.

CNO has participated in 3 previous Habitat for Humanity panel builds.
