The Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards and UBS Wealth Management announced Monday, May 10, that Mark Kordes, head of wealth planning for UBS in the United States, will serve as the new chairman of the CFP Board's Council on Education.

The council provides advice on CFP board-registered program criteria for personal financial planning coursework at colleges and universities. It also offers advice on continuing education requirements for certification renewal.

Kordes, a CFP who joined UBS in 2004, brings more than 25 years of experience in financial services to the table as the new council chair. As U.S. head of wealth planning, he is responsible for the Trust & Estate UHNW Consulting Team, Philanthropic Services, and the UBS Attorney Network. Prior to joining UBS, Kordes was a director in Merrill Lynch's Private Banking & Investment Group.

"CFP Board is very fortunate that Mark has agreed to fill this volunteer leadership position," Board CEO Kevin R. Keller said in a statement. "We anticipate that he will be a great fit to work with CFP Board staff to provide council input, coordinate council activities, and represent the council at the Program Director's Conference."

Keller created the council to advise senior staff on the development of education policies for the CFP certification process. The board now authorizes more than 61,000 individuals to use its financial planning certification marks in the United States.
