Susan Merrill, head of enforcement at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), will join Bingham McCutchen as a partner at the law firm's New York office, Bingham announced Monday, April 12.
Merrill, 53, who said in March she was leaving FINRA, will lead Bingham's broker-dealer group, which advises financial industry clients on regulatory and securities enforcement matters. As FINRA's executive vice president and chief of enforcement, she led the division that was responsible for investigating and prosecuting violations of federal securities laws and FINRA rules governing securities firms.
FINRA was criticized during Merrill's tenure, which occurred during prominent financial scandals, for the regulatory agency's decline in the number of enforcement actions.
