Financial advisors name their favorite products

A recent survey by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants asked over 400 financial advisors what products they were recommending to their clients in 2010. The typical client for these advisors had between $500,000 and $5 million in assets. Advisors were asked to pick up to three investments.

  1. Short term bonds (40 percent)
  2. Large cap stocks (36 percent)
  3. Emerging market funds (23 percent)
  4. Small cap stocks (20 percent)
  5. Defensive stocks (18 percent)
  6. Growth stocks (16 percent)
  7. Commodities or precious metals (12 percent)
  8. Real estate (8 percent)
  9. Hedge funds (7 percent)
  10. Long term bonds (6 percent)
  11. Cash (3 percent)
  12. Other (19 percent)
