Older Americans speak out on Washington's 2010 priorities

  • 25% — Percentage of Americans 50 or older who say the President and Congress should focus on improving the job situation as their top priority in 2010.
  • 18% — Percentage of Americans 50 or older who support comprehensive health care reform as the top priority in 2010.
  • 10% — Percentage of Americans 50 or older who want the top priority in Washington to be strengthening Social Security.
  • 53% — Percentage of Americans 50 or older who think it's not very likley Congress will pass laws to address issues that are important to them.
  • 19% — Percentage of Americans 50 or older who say providing coverage for all Americans is the top health care priority, followed by reducing fraud and waste (16 percent), protecting guaranteed Medicare benefits (11 percent) and lowering the cost for medical care (11 percent).
  • 4% — Percentage of Americans 50 or older who think providing stronger, affordable long-term care options should be top priority; only 6 percent think guaranteeing coverage despite age or preexisting conditions should be top priority.
