Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company has put a new long term care cost calculator on line.
The calculator builds on the company's Cost of Care study, released earlier this year, which surveyed nearly 7,000 home health care providers, assisted living facilities and nursing homes across the U.S.
The Web-based calculator takes into account the sharp differences in costs for LTC services around the country, Northwestern says. It also shows how the potential cost of a LTC event can vary by age and length of time the care is needed.
November is Long Term Care Awareness Month and National Caregivers' Awareness Month, which makes it a good time for individuals to use the calculator to learn about LTC costs, Northwestern suggests.
