The answer is: a. Equities accounted for 42.1% of variable annuity subaccount assets as of the quarter ended March 31, 2009, according to data from the Insured Retirement Institute, Washington, D.C. This was the largest share of VA subaccount assets, IRI says. Fixed accounts followed, at 27.6%, and then allocation strategies (12.9%), bonds (11.9%) and money market funds (5.5%).
