An insurer is realigning the prices of its individual disability insurance products.

The disability insurance business at MetLife Inc., New York, says the realignment will reduce rates for some insureds and expand the number of occupations and executives that qualify for the 6S occupational loss.

That change should cut rates for most "guaranteed standard issue" cases, whether the cases are employer-paid or employee-paid.

MetLife also has increased the maximum issue age on the Your Occupation rider – to 50, from 45, for some occupational classes, and to 59, from 45, for others.

The overall total rate reduction for the Omni Advantage program is 4%, and the overall total rate reduction for the Omni Select program is 11%, MetLife says.
