Advisors and investors who want an extra degree of certainty about the trustworthiness of a fund management firm can check to see if that firm is certified by the Centre for Fiduciary Excellence in Toronto.

CEFEX in the last several years has begun certifying investment fiduciaries (as well as financial advisors, broker-consultants, investment consultants, wealth managers, financial consultants, trust officers and financial planners) according to a rigorous set of stewardship standards. "It's similar to a Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval," explains Blaine Aikin of Fiduciary360, an organization that helped CEFEX develop the certification standards and developed the training programs that lead to the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) and Accredited Investment Fiduciary Analyst (AIFA) designations.

CEFEX explains that its assessment program "serves investors who require assurance that their investments are being managed according to commonly accepted best practices."

CEFEX assessments are performed by holders of the AIFA designation. CEFEX-certified firms are entitled to join the Investment Fiduciary Leadership Council, an association that, with its members, promotes fiduciary responsibility in the global financial community.
