The American College will require financial professionals to take a ninth course to qualify for the Chartered Financial Consultant designation.

The Bryn Mawr, Pa., financial services school is introducing a new course that uses case studies to illustrate aspects of savings, taxation, estate planning and business planning.

The new course applies some of the new insights into financial advice that have emerged in recent years, says Larry Barton, president of the American College.

The requirement for the ninth course takes effect Oct. 1. Until then, ChFC candidates can complete the designation requirements with 8 courses, the college says.
