Research magazine is proud to announce that Professor Moshe Milevsky is returning as a columnist for the magazine starting in July 2009. Milvesky, a professor at York University in Toronto, is one of the world's leading authorities on retirement-related finance issues and a popular speaker.
In 2007, Research featured the news-breaking cover story written by Milevsky, "Confessions of a VA Critic." Picked up by Dow Jones and other sources — and read and requested by thousands of financial advisors — the story warned that the main danger involving annuities was not that they were a "rip-off" as the media usually portrayed them, but that the benefits were so generous that advisors must carefully consider the financial strength of the guarantor.
"That warning seems all the more prescient in light of the current financial upheaval," says Research Editor Gil Weinreich. "At a time of heightened concerns about the financial soundness of annuity providers, there has never been a greater demand among clients for reliable forms of income."
In response, Research will kick off a new monthly series in July: "The State of the Industry" report will lay out the current choices and future direction of annuity firms, financial advisors and their clients. In the future, Milevsky will focus on educating financial advisors about the financial mechanics of annuity products.
