Aviva P.L.C. says it will respond to increasing efficiency by laying off some permanent workers and using fewer contract workers.
Aviva, London, says a 3-year life and pension unit streamlining effort has left it with more employees than it needs in the United Kingdom.
The company is cutting 1,100 staff positions. Attrition and transfers likely will reduce the number of permanent employees laid off to 800, Aviva estimates.
