Life agents are visiting Capitol Hill today to meet with members of Congress.

The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, Falls Church, Va., says members have scheduled more than 200 visits with lawmakers and others, including meetings with the leaders of the House and Senate tax-writing committee, and members of the financial services and banking committees.

"With the turmoil in the financial industry these past several months, now is the time for us to educate Congress about the risk shifting nature of insurance products, their importance to families and businesses, and the role the industry plays in U.S. capital formation," NAIFA President Cliff Wilson says in a statement about the meetings. "We also want to make sure Congress understands the vital role agents play in working with small businesses and individuals in acquiring the right health insurance coverage and other employee benefits."
