Conseco Inc. says it has not yet completed its financial statement for the year ended Dec.31, 2008.

Conseco, Carmel, Ind., said earlier this month that it would delay releasing its annual report after its independent auditor asked the company for more information about its liquidity and its investment portfolio losses.

If Conseco fails to provide satisfactory information, the auditor will issue a statement questioning Conseco's ability to continue as a going concern, Conseco said at the time.

Conseco said in the announcement of the auditor's request for more information that it would file its Form 10-K annual report with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission by March 17.

Conseco now says it expects to complete its financial statements and file its 10-K on or before March 31.

The company says it is continuing to provide information and analysis to address the auditor's concerns.
