An insurer says it will be trying harder to sell insurance through associations and other institutional groups, such as multi-employer trusts, joint purchasing associations, and professional employer organizations.

The insurer, the MetLife unit of MetLife Inc., New York, says it has named Brendan Canning national sales director for its affinity and specialty benefits group.

Glenn Petersen, previously national sales director for executive benefits, will be national sales director for employee-paid sales.

The new affinity & specialty benefits team will handle all sales, contracting and support related to marketing of life, dental, disability, critical illness and personal property-casualty insurance products through associations and affinity groups, MetLife says.
