The Society of Actuaries is asking thinkers to big thoughts about how the United States should deliver and pay for health care.

The SOA, Schaumburg, Ill., has issued a call for essays on "Visions for the Future of the U.S. Health Care System."

"What is the vision for a U.S. health care system that is financially sound, broadly accessible, and operationally efficient; and what creative solutions will chart the path to this destination?" the SOA asks in the introduction to a description of the kinds of essays it is seeking.

The SOA is asking for essays from health care professionals, academics and other interested parties.

Essays can address the health care system as a whole or focus on particular aspects, such as the future role of the employer and the future of prevention, wellness and disease management programs.

The OA's Actuaries Health Section will discuss the essays at a meeting in June, in Toronto.
