Avant Benefits Inc. is starting a program that will help insurers, enrollment firms, agents and others get inside the country's worksites.

The program will serve insurers, enrollment firms, producers and others that want to sell products to workers on a voluntary, employee-paid basis, according to Avant, Massapequa, N.Y., a benefits broker.

Avant will have telemarketers spend 50,000 hours calling employers with 50 or more employees.

The telemarketers will exclude restaurants, real estate agencies and other types of companies that are usually not strong prospects for voluntary benefits sales, Avant says.

Avant will schedule meeting with prospective customers, then notify participating carriers, enrollment firms and independent agents interested in participating in the meetings.

Most independent agents would pay a flat rate for each confirmed guaranteed meeting and retain any commissions resulting from the meetings, Avant says.

Enrollment firms would receive a share of any commissions resulting from a meeting, Avant says.
