A report by AARP found relatively few boomers lost a job last year (9 percent); however, that's almost twice as many who reported in April 2008 they had lost a job in the prior 12 months. Nearly 30 percent are afraid they may lose their job this year. The percentage of boomers who reported their spouse lost a job increased from 3 percent to 7 percent.

Of those who are working, 28 percent said they are worked more hours last year. Younger boomers who took investment hits said they plan to keep working through retirement (57 percent); a slightly higher percentage of older boomers said they plan to do the same (63 percent).
