Assurant Health has developed an individual medical insurance policy designed for individuals with rheumatoid arthritis.

Assurant Health, Milwaukee, a unit of Assurant Inc., New York, notes that many insurers decline to cover applicants with rheumatoid arthritis.

The new Assurant Health policy will come with a "condition specific deductible" for patients with rheumatoid arthritis, Assurant Health says.

Patients will get provider discounts on rheumatoid arthritis care before meeting their deductibles, and, after meeting the condition specific deductible, will get full coverage for arthritis care as well as for other types of care, Assurant Health says.

Discounts on injectable arthritis drugs and other treatments could save some patients about $3,500 per month, Assurant Health says.
