SavingForCollege.com's sixth annual 529 conference will take place September 24-26 at the Mandalay Bay resort in Las Vegas. "The first day is our boot camp," notes Joseph Hurley, founder of the Web-based service. "It's an educational workshop for those who work in the 529 or financial industry–soup to nuts on how the plans work. It's all the rules, all the planning ideas." The rest of the conference comprises a series of panels of experts talking about the most important issues of the day in the 529 industry. "We have panels looking at investment trends in 529 plans, how plans can be marketed better, regulatory compliance, and about the upcoming election and what may happen to the tax law after the election," Hurley adds.

The conference will also focus on 529 investment trends–how programs are structuring their investment menus, how and why they do it, and the approaches they take. New types of investments coming into this space, such as exchange-traded funds, bank products, and guaranteed products, will also be covered.
