The psychological gap between older consumers who do and do not use professional advisors is wide.

Researchers at Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Minneapolis, describe the gap in a summary of results from a recent survey of 80 U.S. adults ages 60 to 74.

About 22% of participants said they had worked with financial professionals to discuss retirement income planning, and 94% of the participants who had talked to the professionals said they found the experience helpful.

But the researchers also found that 94% of the participants who had not worked with financial professionals said they were not interested in professional guidance on how to manage their money or draw money from their retirement nest egg.
