The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority is working with the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans to help protect companies and older workers from early retirement scams.

FINRA, Washington, and the IFEBP, Brookfield, Wis., will be distributing tips employers can use to evaluate the financial professionals who run early retirement seminars and the invitations, slides, handouts and scripts used in the seminars, FINRA says.

"Company representatives may also refer early retirement seminar materials to FINRA for review if they have concerns," FINRA says. "FINRA staff will review all seminar materials referred and inform the company whether the materials are consistent with applicable standards."

FINRA and the IFEBP also will be working on efforts to educate employees to look out for fraudulent early retirement programs, FINRA says.
