A report by the Investment Company Institute found that over two-thirds of mutual fund owners bought their funds through an employer-sponsored retirement plan, and 43 percent purchased funds with the help of a financial advisor. About 64 percent have over half their savings invested in mutual funds and 40 percent have at least 75 percent of their assets in mutual funds. Eighty-three percent of fund owners own more than one, and equity funds are the most popular, with 80 percent of owners choosing to invest in equity funds.
