CFP Board increases disciplinary governance

New Resources and safeguards have been added by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. to its disciplinary procedures to make them more fair, objective and transparent, and enhance consumer confidence.

Perhaps the biggest step forward for CFP Board is the introduction of public representation on its Disciplinary and Ethics Commission, the body that administers disciplinary hearings. Staff counsel will still be available to offer guidance, and the hearing panels will still deliberate autonomously, but the transparency offered by incorporating public representatives should alleviate many doubts clients may have.
