Aetna Inc. is adopting a new strategy for telling doctors about patient care concerns.
Aetna, Hartford, is using a new system to send "Care Considerations" messages to provider Web sites.
Physicians may get "action alert" messages or see messages pop up when they are checking patients' benefits eligibility.
The messages might concern matters such as patient drug allergies and gaps in preventive care, Aetna says.
In the past, Aetna has sent the messages through telephone calls, fax messages and conventional letters.
In some cases, depending on the nature of the message, physicians may still get alerts through those routes, Aetna says.
