The Connecticut Insurance Department says it persuaded insurers to pay about $500,000 in previously denied insurance claims in the first quarter.

The number of consumer complaints and inquiries received during the first quarter fell to about 1,400, from 1,600 during the first quarter of 2007, the department reports.

About 46% of the complaints received during the latest quarter involved accident and health lines, while 46% of the funds recovered involved complaints about life and annuity products.
