American politicians will do well to concern themselves with retirement issues if the want to retain or gain office, according to the results of a poll from Americans for Secure Retirement.

ASR, which advocates tax breaks for annuity owners, found that 69 percent of voters are in favor of a law that would provide a 50 percent tax exclusion on income from payout of a lifetime annuity, up to $20,000 per year. The proposal, "Retirement Security for Life Act of 2007," comes as traditional pensions are disappearing and Americans are responsible for more of the own retirement security.
