  • 76.9 years: Average life expectancy at birth in 2000.
  • 80%: Percentage of seniors with at least one chronic health problem; 50 percent have at least two.
  • 80%: Percentage of centenarians who are women.
  • 14 million: Number of non-institutionalized seniors with a disability.
  • 43%: Percentage of older women with a disability, compared with 40 percent of older men.
