New Jersey Gov. Jon Corzine has signed a bill that will require state-regulated health insurers in the state to cover the cost of providing artificial limbs for amputees.

The newly enacted bill, S.B. 502, requires carriers to cover care for amputees without caps or co-payment requirements that would restrict patient access to prostheses.

Other states with amputee benefits mandates include California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon and Rhode Island, according to the Amputee Coalition of America, Knoxville, Tenn.
