Giving: Minnesota Blue, Independence Blue

A foundation affiliated with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota recently awarded $1.1 million in 2007 grants.

The Eagan, Minn., foundation gave the biggest grant, for $150,000, to the Minnesota Early Learning Foundation, St. Paul, Minn.

The program provides home-based parent-mentoring to improve learning readiness for babies and children ages 3 and under.

The foundation now is accepting letters of inquiry for 2008 funding through its "Healthy Together" program, which supports organizations that serve immigrants and refugees.

In other philanthropic news, Independence Blue Cross, Philadelphia, says it has awarded $925,000 in funding through 2010 to 6 Philadelphia non-profit clinics that seek to help the uninsured and the under-insured.
