A prominent long term care insurance advocate is going on the road with the message that the United States needs private alternatives to Medicaid nursing home benefits.

Stephen Moses, president of the Center for Long Term Care Insurance Reform Inc., Seattle, says his National LTC Consciousness Tour will stress the importance of LTC financing to individuals, families and policy makers in 6 regions of the country. His plan is to spend 2 months in each of the regions, starting in January in the Southeast.

Moses is trying to recruit LTC insurance brokers and agents to work with him in each area, to talk about LTC issues with politicians, policy makers, the public and the media.

"Together, we'll publish op-ed articles," Moses said in announcing the tour. "We'll meet with newspaper editorial boards. We'll do talk radio. We'll engage politicians and public officials. We'll enlist LTC providers. We'll educate financial planners and accountants. We'll address estate planning councils. We'll coordinate with provider and insurer trade associations. We'll work with reverse mortgage lenders. We will do whatever it takes."
