A Northeastern insurer is expanding the reach of its Medicare Advantage private fee-for-service operation.

Universal American Financial Corp., Rye Brook, N.Y., says it will be offering Medicare FFS coverage in 47 states in 2008, up from 35 states this year.

Universal American will be selling lower-cost versions of its Today's Options plans, and it will be offering plans that incorporate access to the Community CCRx community pharmacy network.

Universal American agents will be reaching out to consumers by holding seminars and enrollment sessions in the Community CCRx pharmacies, the company says.

Universal American writes the Medicare private FFS coverage through its American Progressive Life and Health Insurance Company of New York, Pyramid Life Insurance Company and Marquette National Life Insurance Company subsidiaries.
