A health care quality group says 10 organizations have earned a new quality designation designed for pharmacy benefit managers.

URAC, Washington, says the first recipients of Pharmacy Benefit Management Accreditation status include units of Aetna Inc., Hartford, and Humana Inc., Louisville, Ky., as well as a company known mainly as PBMs or as pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesalers or retailers.

The URAC PBM standards relate to concerns such as organizational quality, customer service, communications, disclosure of pricing policies, pharmaceutical distribution, drug utilization management, and formulary selection.
