About 75% of U.S. adults believe that life insurance is a necessity, but few want to think about it.

The Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education, Arlington, Va., has reported that finding in a discussion of results from an informal consumer survey.

LIFE commissioned the survey to help promote efforts to make September Life Insurance Awareness Month.

About 47% of the survey participants said they would prefer to go to the motor vehicle office to renew a driver's license than to look into their life insurance needs, according to LIFE.

Another 20% of the participants said they would prefer to go to the dentist for a root canal, and 15% said they would prefer to baby sit sextuplets.
