Californians doubt anything will improve their state's health care system any time soon.
Researchers at Field Research Inc., San Francisco, have reported that finding in a summary of a statewide voter poll.
Although 69% of California voters are dissatisfied with the way the health care system works in California, 58% think it is unlikely that the governor and legislature will be able to pass a significant health reform bill this year, the researchers say.
When Field surveyed voters in December 2006, 52% supported the idea of reforming the health care system by sharing responsibilities among employers, government and business. Now, only 33% favor this alternative, according to Field.
Field found that the percentage of California voters who support the idea of replacing the existing system with a new state-run system that would cover all Californians has increased to 36%, from 24% in December 2006.
