When Ariel Capital Management Chairman and CEO John Rogers, Jr., founded the firm in 1983 it was the first African-American owned money management company in the U.S. Rogers and his team now manage about $15.5 billion in assets in Ariel separate accounts and mutual funds.

Rogers graduated from Princeton University with an A.B. in economics, and was, "the one guy on the basketball team at Princeton who had my Forbes and my Fortune for the long bus rides up to Dartmouth or Cornell."
