A life insurer has hired an outside firm to try to help it speed up evaluations of applicants' health.
The Phoenix Companies Inc., Hartford, has created the new Phoenix Concierge service with help from Hooper Holmes Inc., Basking Ridge, N.J.

Portamedic paramedics will help order attending physician statements, when necessary, for applicants who apply for Phoenix life insurance policies with $2 million or more in face value.
The paramedics also will arrange for the applicants to get preferred appointment times and locations for underwriting interviews and medical tests, and offer physicians credit card payments or overnight payments in exchange for prompt fulfillment of APS requests.
