A large Southern financial services company has announced the departure of a senior executive.

Gary Corsi has resigned from the position of chief financial officer at Protective Life Corp., Birmingham, Ala.

Corsi began working for Protective in September 2006.

"Although his tenure with our company has been brief, Gary Corsi has been a valued and respected member of our team and a positive contributor to our company," Protective Life Chairman John Johns says in a statement about Corsi's resignation. "We wish him and his family the very best in the future."

Protective Life has promoted Richard Bielen to succeed Corsi as CFO.

Bielen has been Protective Life's chief investment officer and treasurer since September 2006.

Protective Life also has promoted Carl Thigpen to chief investment officer, to fill Bielen's position, and it has promoted Carolyn Johnson to chief operating officer.
