A managed care company giant says it will use the Web to give doctors and plan members reimbursement and patient billing information almost instantaneously.

UnitedHealthcare, a unit of UnitedHealth Group Inc., Minnetonka, Minn., says it has posted a link to a service that can adjudicate claims online, in less than 10 seconds, at Document Link

The service can apply the terms of a doctor's network contract and a patient's plan, then determine how much the plan will pay the doctor and how much the patient will owe the doctor while a patient is still in the doctor's office.

UnitedHealthcare began testing the service in Rhode Island last summer, and it made the service available nationwide Jan. 1, the company says.

UnitedHealthcare also will make the instant adjudication service available through independent claim clearinghouses, the company says.
