Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has started offering Nutmeg State consumers a health insurance policy designed for consumers ages 19 to 29.

Anthem Blue’s parent, WellPoint Inc., Indianapolis, began selling the Tonik policy to “young invincibles” in other states in 2003.

The policy, which is available to all consumers under age 65 but equipped with features thought to appeal to younger consumers, comes with a high lifetime coverage unit, a high deductible for most health care expenses, and a package of routine care benefits that comes with low out-of-pocket costs.

The product is medically underwritten, but applicants who qualify can apply through the Web and print out their own insurance cards.

In Connecticut the monthly premium for Tonik coverage will start around $100, according to Anthem Blue.
